Jingle Bell Hell
By Craig Stafford "Think Happy Guru"

Not everyone is ringing bells of excitement as we approach the holidays. Like the late great Billie Holiday, many people will be singing the blues during these special occasions. And they are no ordinary blues. These are the thinking person's blues- the painful reality of the blues of the soul.

My brother's keeper has been replaced with blues brother. Sisterhood has become a sorority of women scorned and Hell has plenty of furry with no indication of freezing over. Male and female alike have one thing in common. They both belong to an elite club of hopelessness. So it seems. All hope is not lost. Hopelessness is the beginning of hope and pain is the word within painting. It is time for you to paint a life portrait of gain-gain your life back that is. Recover your life with these 7 steps to get you as Maya Angelou has written, "Singin' and Swingin' and Getting' Merry Like Christmas." Happiness is your birthright!
  • Feel the pain- You have the right to feel the way you feel. It's not so much about accepting the pain as it is about acknowledging that the pain exists and that it is real. It doesn't have to be real for anyone else as long as it is real for you.
  • It's okay- Not only do you have the right to feel the way you feel, but it's okay. Don't allow anyone to tell you it's NOT okay. When you tell yourself it's okay you empower yourself for positive change. Emotions are designed to come and go.
  • Face the situation- when you face the situation you are actually facing yourself. The easiest way to do this is by looking in the mirror. Why? Because if we can take a good look at self then we can look at the other person, place or thing if need be.
  • Work through the situation- The best way to work through a situation is by expressing how you feel. Don't keep it bottled inside. Open the cap and pour yourself out. Why? Because if you don't the contents will turn toxic and destroy you. When we hold things inside we are giving our personal power away. Let the emotion flow through you.
  • Work past the situation- Once the emotion has flowed through you and passed on then you can move toward the next step of recovery. The slightest hint of relief is enough to encourage you to play it forward.
  • Dawning of a new day- Mental clarity, emotional freedom, social engagement, physical interaction and spiritual renewal all represent a dawning of a new day. The sky is the limit and the sky not only interacts with the Sun, but the clouds, the rain, thunder and storms. Through it all it is still the sky and you have the resolve to do the same.

Make your own holiday- if the holidays you grew up with no longer work for you. Then make up your own holiday to celebrate. The holiday isn't the focus. The focus is you having the ability to celebrate life- YOUR life!
